Course Description:

This workshop will expand your spiritual practice into the creative realms! Participants will learn how making and viewing art affects neurocognition and explore how your art practice deepens the meaning of life experiences.

Following a series of prompts, participants will explore spiritual themes using any preferred medium (choice of painting, drawing, collage, or mixed media), resulting in a resonant piece of art that depicts your beliefs, connections to higher powers, and personal experiences with life, death, and everything in between.

This workshop is led by an art therapist, but it is not group art therapy. However, participants will learn how to identify subconscious material in their artwork and practice sharing the meaning of their art.

You will head home with your artwork, a handmade book of art therapy prompts, and plenty of resources for deeper education about art as a spiritual practice.

About the Artist:

Hannah Schaler is a local artist and art therapist with a dual background in the arts and fitness/wellness. For her entire life, she has walked the line between arts and sciences, always wondering how it all fits together and what the heck it all means?! Hannah completed her AA in Studio Art at Florida State University, BA in Art History from the University of Florida, and MA in Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and has taught yoga and mindfulness for more than 14 years. Her personal art practice mixes mediums such as on fibers, paint, drawing to create large-scale images that confront systems of oppression in our society. She has a private art therapy practice in Santa Monica, and she spends her down time singing along to Broadway, sewing garments, or playing tennis.
